6 Signs It's Time to Redesign Your Website

Jessica Reynolds

If you have a website, you may be wondering when it’s time for a refresh. Old, stale websites can leave visitors with more to be desired. And keeping your website up-to-date and relevant is important. Here’s 6 signs you should consider redesigning your website.

1. You recently had a rebrand

It isn’t uncommon to rebrand at various points in your business. The process of rebranding is often used as a time to redefine your business as a whole (from services to purpose & beyond).

Various elements can change - including: colors, fonts, brand vision & voice. And these elements are all things that have to be changed brand-wide - like, your Instagram feed, Facebook group, sales pages and your website. If these are left unrefreshed, it can leave potential website visitors with an unsteady feeling and leaves an impression that you’re website is out of date or you don’t care enough to refresh it.

2. Your target audience has changed

No business looks the same after many years & almost any entrepreneur will tell you that as your business evolves, your audience can change too. Similar to when rebranding, when you become more clear on who/how you begin to niche down even further.

When you niche down, or become more specific about who you help, the people in your audience can shift pretty dramatically. And if your website isn’t geared toward your new audience, you can experience a drop in conversions on your website. This is because even though you may be attracting visitors to your website, they won’t stay or convert if they feel this disconnect.

3. It’s been over 3 years since you designed your website

Nowadays, 3 years in this fast-moving internet-age can feel like another era. Online trends come & go. And if you don’t keep up, you could be left behind.

You have 3 seconds to make a first impression on your website. And if visitors are given the impression your website is old or out-dated, they’re much faster to click away from your site.

4. Your website isn’t mobile friendly

When designing your website it is important to be sure it is compatible with different devices, like mobile phone, tablet or desktop. Mobile responsiveness is so important because more than 50% of internet traffic comes from mobile device users.

If you don’t know if your website is mobile friendly or not, take a look at your website on a tablet and mobile device. If you’re using Squarespace, you can check out tip #3 on this blog post to learn how to view your website on mobile, tablet and desktop.

5. Links or pages are broken

I’m sure you’ve experienced this yourself… you’re on someone’s website, shifting through different content or trying to learn more about their latest offer.. And then, you get the 404 page. What a buzz kill.

If a website visitor experiences that sort of frustration, it is more likely they will leave your website & be hesitant to return.

6. Your website is no longer aligned with your business or mission

When moving through the different phases of your business journey, your business will evolve. When your website no longer feels aligned with your business, it may be time to finally redesign that website.
